WAYCROSS, Ga. – Southeast Georgia and parts of Northeast Florida could soon experience a rare winter event: snow.
The prospect has stirred a mix of excitement, skepticism, and apprehension among residents in the region.
Current forecasts indicate that areas like Waycross, Brunswick, Nahunta, and Blackshear have a strong chance of seeing snowfall.
News4JAX Chief Meteorologist Richard Nunn explained, “If you’re going to see snow, that’s going to be in Georgia. Those areas have a very good chance for it.”
Community Reactions
For many residents, the thought of a snow-covered landscape is thrilling. Zipporah, a longtime Waycross resident, is excited at the prospect. “We [can] have a lot of snow on the ground for one time in our life,” he said.
However, not everyone shares his enthusiasm. Hannah Raulerson from Blackshear admitted, “I don’t want snow. It’s too cold. It’s already cold enough.” Despite her reservations, she conceded, “I guess I’m gonna be outside playing in it if it happens.”
Younger residents, like 5-year-old Logan and 6-year-old Leah, are eager to experience snow for the first time.
When asked if they’d have a snowball fight, the children’s excited laughter gave a definitive answer.
