A Tennessee man has been charged with first-degree murder after allegedly strangling his pregnant girlfriend, 30-year-old Ariel Nevills, in their home.

Nevills, an Army reservist and millwright from Indiana, was ten weeks pregnant at the time of her death.

The suspect, 29-year-old Vidol Wegner, reportedly called Maury County authorities on January 20 to confess.

According to police, Wegner admitted to killing Nevills and her unborn child following an argument about her pregnancy.

In his confession, Wegner allegedly described using two different methods of strangulation to ensure her death.

During a jailhouse interview, he reportedly attempted to shift blame, claiming Nevills “chose this.” He told authorities, “I told her this is the way. I had a beautiful future set up for us. She wanted to act crazy. She chose this. It didn’t have to be this way.”

Wegner now faces two counts of first-degree murder and one count of felony murder. He is scheduled to appear in court on February 3.

Nevills’ death has left her family and community grieving deeply.

As legal proceedings move forward, they are advocating for justice for both Nevills and her unborn child.
