Southern States to Warm Up This Weekend After Rare Winter Storm

A rare winter storm that recently hit the Southern U.S. is finally starting to thaw, with temperatures expected to return to more typical conditions this weekend.

The storm, which brought freezing temperatures and heavy snow to parts of Texas, Florida, and other Southern states, is being described as a once-in-a-generation event.

While temperatures began rising on Thursday, the overnight chill led to the formation of black ice, making roads and walkways dangerous.

As of Friday morning, millions of people in northern Florida, Alabama, and Georgia remain under freeze warnings, with temperatures dipping into the 20s and 30s.

However, the weather is expected to improve, with daytime highs forecasted to reach the 40s and low 50s in these areas.

By Sunday, warmer temperatures will spread across Texas, and by Monday, the warm air is expected to reach Florida, Georgia, and the Carolinas.

The National Weather Service has advised residents to remain cautious of freezing conditions and to protect pets, pipes, plants, and people from the cold.

By Sunday, the Tampa Bay area will enjoy highs in the 60s and 70s, and New Orleans should experience temperatures in the low 60s.

As temperatures rise, road conditions in many of the affected regions are expected to improve.

For those attending Florida’s Gasparilla Pirate Festival in Tampa, afternoon temperatures will be in the low 60s, with clear skies and a high of around 62 degrees, a sharp contrast to the freezing morning temperatures.
