Maine Fugitive Arrested for Bank Fraud in Connecticut

A fugitive from Maine was arrested Thursday afternoon in Plymouth after attempting to withdraw money from a bank using a fake ID, according to Plymouth Police.

The incident occurred at 3:30 p.m. when employees at Webster Bank on North Riverside Avenue contacted police about a suspicious individual attempting fraudulent transactions.

Officers arrived promptly and detained the suspect as he tried to leave the bank.

The man initially provided multiple fake names and was found carrying several fraudulent ID cards and narcotics.

Fingerprints revealed his identity as 42-year-old Keil Smith Macleod, who had an active warrant from the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Department in Maine.

Macleod was also linked to previous fraud attempts at other Webster Bank branches across Connecticut.

Macleod faces charges of identity theft, providing false statements, and possession of narcotics.

He is being held on a $150,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court in March.

Police continue to investigate Macleod’s connection to other fraudulent activities in the region.
