This old-fashioned gingerbread is rewritten from grandma’s notebook. It is so perfect and smells amazing! It will take you around an hour and a half to make it. Delicious and ideal for the holidays, check out the recipe:
- 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- ¾ teaspoon ground cinnamon
- ¼ teaspoon ground cloves
- 1 ¼ teaspoon ground ginger
- ½ cup butter
- ½ cup white sugar
- 1 cup molasses
- 1 egg
- 1 cup hot water
- A pinch of salt
For garnish (optional):
- Chocolate glaze
- Icing sugar

Instructions:
- Preheat oven to 350°F/180°C/Gas Mark 4. Grease and flour a 9-in. square pan. Set aside.
- In a mixing bowl, beat together the butter and sugar. Whisk in the egg, and add in the molasses.
- Next, in another bowl, sift together the flour, salt, baking soda, cloves, cinnamon, and ginger. Mix into the creamed mixture. Pour in the hot water and combine.
- Spread into the prepared pan. Bake 60 minutes in the preheated oven, or until a tester inserted in the center comes out clean. Let cool in pan.
- Before serving, garnish with chocolate glaze and/or sprinkle some icing sugar (if desired). Then, slice and serve.
