Trine University Hosts Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA)
Trine University is offering free tax preparation services for individuals with disabilities or limited English proficiency through its Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program. The sessions are held on Mondays and Wednesdays from 3:30 to 4:45 p.m. at Ford Hall, located at the corner of Darling Street and Thunder Drive. The program runs until April 14, excluding the period from March 3 to March 9.
The VITA team comprises eight IRS-certified accounting students, alumna Ingrid Rosales, and assistant professor Al Beatty.
“We love serving people in need through the VITA program, and it’s especially exciting to host tax preparation on campus this year,” said Beatty. “In addition to providing a community service, VITA allows our accounting students to gain practical experience in preparing taxes before starting their careers.”
The VITA program serves individuals earning $67,000 or less, those with disabilities, and taxpayers with limited English proficiency. To utilize the service, participants must bring a Social Security card for all taxpayers on the return and a government-issued photo ID for the primary taxpayers.
For more information or to schedule an appointment, contact Beatty at [email protected] or leave a message at (260) 665-4368.
