State Senator Ed Jackson (R-Jackson) has been appointed as Chairman of the Government Operations Committee in the Tennessee Senate, a position announced by Lt. Governor Randy McNally on Thursday, January 16, as the Senate concluded its organizational session in Nashville.
In addition to his new role as chairman, Senator Jackson has been assigned to serve on the Health Committee, State and Local Government Committee, and Rules Committee.
“Senator Jackson is a strong and dependable member of our Senate team,” said Lt. Governor McNally. “The Government Operations Committee has a vast portfolio of issues under its purview and touches every area of state government. Its oversight function is critical. I am confident Senator Jackson will be an excellent leader for this committee.”
Role and Responsibilities of the Committee
The Government Operations Committee is regarded as one of the most influential in the General Assembly. It acts as a government watchdog, ensuring the efficiency and accountability of state operations.
Key responsibilities include:
- Overseeing legislation to create, reauthorize, reorganize, or sunset departments, commissions, boards, agencies, or councils of state government.
- Reviewing bills concerning the licensing and certification of occupational and professional groups.
- Evaluating regulations introduced by Tennessee departments, commissions, boards, or agencies.
