Senator Ed Jackson Named Chairman of Tennessee Government Operations Committee

State Senator Ed Jackson, R-Jackson, has been appointed Chairman of the Tennessee Senate’s Government Operations Committee, a powerful committee responsible for overseeing efficiency and accountability in state government.

The announcement was made by Lt. Governor Randy McNally on Thursday, January 16th, as the Senate concluded its organizational session in Nashville.

In addition to chairing the Government Operations Committee, Senator Jackson will serve on the Health Committee, State and Local Government Committee, and Rules Committee.

“Senator Jackson is a strong and dependable member of our Senate team,” said Lt. Gov. McNally. “The Government Operations Committee oversees a wide range of issues and plays a critical role in ensuring efficiency and accountability across state government. I am confident Senator Jackson will excel in this leadership role.”

The Government Operations Committee is regarded as one of the most influential in the General Assembly.

It functions as a watchdog for state government, with responsibilities that include reviewing and approving legislation related to the creation, reauthorization, reorganization, or dissolution of state departments, commissions, boards, agencies, or councils.

The committee also evaluates professional licensing and certification bills and reviews regulations proposed by state entities.

Senator Jackson, a Madison County native, has a distinguished history of public service. Before being elected to the Senate in 2014, he served in the Army National Guard for seven years.

Outside of his legislative duties, Jackson is a small business owner. He lives in Jackson, Tennessee, with his wife, Marilyn.
