The Montgomery County Commissioners Court has suggested the Public Health District to maintain a $3 million fund balance and use surplus funds for fiscal years 2023-2024. The Public Health has a balance of around $3.7 million. The district approved an extension of the interlocal management agreement, with the full transition or termination on or before September 30.
2010 federal waiver ensures public health services funding beyond 2022.
The MCHD terminated the public health district’s management agreement in June, exceeding the 30-day notice required by contract. The MCHD and MCPHD board agreed to extend the agreement, with the transition or termination by Sept. 30. A federal waiver granted in 2010 sustained public health services until 2022, requiring management handover to a new entity.
The hospital public health district received a federal waiver in 2010 to continue public health services beyond 2022. The Montgomery County Commissioners Court expressed willingness to continue running the public health district, with commissioners recommending financing. The court suggested the public health district to keep at least $3 million in its fund balance and use surplus funds for the remainder of 2023-2024.
