With a $3 million investment from Sutter Health, Sacramento Native American Health Center (SNAHC) transformed a vacant auto dealership into a full-service clinic offering medical, dental, behavioral health, and supportive services to Native and non-Native patients.
The new facility on Florin Road has the capacity to serve up to 12,000 people annually. Dr. Maureen Wimsatt, Chief Program and Development Officer for Sacramento Native American Health Center, emphasized the organization’s dedication to the South Sacramento community. This is the first time in 16 years that Sacramento Native American Health Center has established a health center outside of its midtown Sacramento headquarters.
COLLABORATION BETWEEN SACRAMENTO NATIVE AMERICAN HEALTH CENTER AND SUTTER HEALTH
Sacramento Native American Health Center also collaborated with Sutter Health to open a school-based health center at Grant Union High School-West Campus. These centers staffed by nurses and doctors play a crucial role in reducing health and education disparities. The Grant Union center, known as Pacers Take Space-Mind, provides behavioral health services, educational sessions, and pantry essentials, addressing significant health needs in underserved areas.
As a federally qualified health center, Sacramento Native American Health Center receives federal funding to serve medically underserved individuals regardless of their ability to pay. This partnership between Sacramento Native American Health Center and Sutter Health exemplifies effective private-public collaborations that prioritize community needs and advance health equity.
